Call of Duty: Warzone
Platforms: PS4 / Xbox One / Windows
Star rating: 5/5
Call of Duty finally has a battle royale to rival Fortnite, Pubg and Apex Legends.
That’s the biggest compliment you can give the new free-to-play add-on that drops 150 players in a fight to the death in the sprawling city of Verdansk.
You team up in squads of three and loot up with weapons and boxes found in drops and in buildings.
Players must outrun a giant toxic killer gas cloud which wipes out anyone in its path and is much deadlier than other battle royale rings.
Health is pretty much doubled with a maximum of three armour plates, which are easy to find but difficult to stack, striking the perfect balance in heated combat.
The past few Call of Dutys have become a victim of the series’ own success, much fanfare at lunch but the linear structure of multiplayer not providing fans enough depth or variation to stick around.
But Warzone is a finely tuned, adrenaline-pumping adventure with unlimited potential and it’s completely free.
